How to learn Foundation 6 (and anything else?)

Have you seen the F6 demo site? https://www.foundationstacks.com/demo/

That site is broken down into individual segments of Foundation. At the bottom of each page there are both long and short form videos to help you learn the stacks on that page. Hopefully the 5-10 min videos there are short enough for everyone's short attention spans! 😉

The entire project file for that demo site is available for download as well on the Foundation product page, along with tons of other content. There are many project files that were built during various YouTube videos. The related videos should be linked to with those downloads. Make sure that you get the free templates! https://www.weavers.space/stacks/foundation#downloads

I would love to recommend one video to watch that would make everything "click" perfectly just for you. However, everyone is different. I have learned that one video put everything together for one person and a different video does for another. The home page of the demo site has a lot of different general tutorials. Most of these are long form.

I want to warn you about getting into analysis paralysis though. It's easy to simply get into learning mode and watch video after video and never jump in and build anything. I get stuck in this same routine. I spent probably over a year watching one woodworking video after another. I spent more time watching videos about woodworking than I did actual building anything. You will never learn more than when you actually do the thing!

No amount of learning can beat experience. So just start building a webpage! You don't need to even know what a "swatch" is to build a basic site (proof). Just start building! Don't let yourself get hung up on little fancy things. Just build out the page content. Get the page as far along as possible without any special styles. We can figure that out later on!

When you get to the point where you need to learn about how to do one specific thing, find a video for that. If you cannot find that thing on a video, ask on the community. We are all here to help each other. The only stupid question is the one never asked. If you have a question, I guarantee there are other users that have the same question. Please search before posting though... maybe someone has already asked. 😃

Lastly there are weekly hangouts every Friday. I understand that the timing of these may be tough based on where you are in the world or what is going on in your life. However, there is no substitute for talking face-to-face with your fellow Weavers. Links to the hangout are posted every Friday in the Events Space. I can't wait to see you there.

Foundation 6 does have a very different workflow from the traditional stack based settings that many users has engrained in them for years. Paradigm shifts can be hard. I have heard that it could be easier for a new user to "get" Foundation 6 instead of existing users having to re-learn a better way to build websites. However, once you do "get it", it's game over. You will never want to build a website any other way.
