Transitioning from Side Hustle to Full-Time: Strategies for Scaling Up

Hey everyone,

As some of you may know, I've been a web developer for a division of a large integrated healthcare provider for over 15 years. During this time, I've developed over two dozen websites, both internal and external, that perform exceedingly well in SERP. However, due to a recent acquisition and change in direction, I've parted ways with the company. Now, I'm focusing exclusively on my long-standing side business, MediaPressions Web Design.

For MediaPressions, I've averaged a new website a year over the past few years without really trying. My goal for 2024 is to onboard a dozen new clients. I've revamped my website (MediaPressions) and invested time in SEO. While I'm already ranking 1st on Google My Business, I know the broader SEO efforts will take time to pay off.

Here are some strategies I'm implementing and considering:

Already Implementing:

  • Content Marketing: Added an Insights page for weekly content to boost SEO and establish authority.

  • Social Media: Revived the business Facebook page and Twitter account.

  • Email Marketing: Created a newsletter sign-up on the website for quarterly updates.

Considering:

  • Google AdWords: I have limited experience here and would love some advice.

  • Email Marketing: Is buying lists and cold-calling effective?

  • Local Networking: Is joining the local Chamber of Commerce beneficial?

I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences, especially if you have strategies that have worked wonders for you.
