Newbie Favicon Observation With Safari

Did not see favicon appear in browser tab in Safari. I tried every size SVG file I could think of. Favicon always showed up in Chrome and never in Safari. Even tried deleting it and republishing the site with no changes. Started looking at the code in the browser and did not see SVG there amd still no Favicon in Safari (which I expected). Deleted every SVG file from the resources in RapidWeaver. Went to the C-Panel and found every SVG file I had tried. Deleted them all and added and ICO file (for what I thought Safari would use). Favicon magically appeared but when I checked the html in the browser, no ICO file was there. Went back to the C-Panel and deleted the ICO file and everything still works in Safari. Problem has been solved but I'd like to save someone else the frustration.

It is my understanding if you add an SVG file in RapidWeaver you will not get a favicon in Safari. If you leave the spot blank you do get the favicon in Safari IF you have never published the site with an SVG file. Once the file (SVG) is published it doesn't matter what you do in RapidWeaver, you won't get the favicon in Safari unless you delete the SVG file(s) from the C-Panel.

Is there any way to for RapidWeaver to compare the files it publishes with the files that are already there and delete the files that are no longer being used for the website?
